VSCode in the Cloud with the Orchard Core Development Environment
In this video, we look at Visual Studio Online. Just using a web browser and specifying specify a GitHub repository we can develop an Orchard Core Web Application.
Visual Studio Online Key Features
With your favorite web browser, browse to https://visualstudio.microsoft.com.
You must have a Microsoft account. if not you can create one here https://account.microsoft.com/account. Click on the "Sign in" button.
Click "Yes" to continue.
Click on the "Create environment" button.
Create a billing plan by selecting a subscription, location, plan name and resource group.
Enter an environment name, GitHub repository, instance type,and suspend idle time after and then press the "Create" button.
Wait until the environment is created and then press the "Available" button.
Visual Studio Code will be launched with your GitHub repository loaded.
In order to build the application, the C# extensions must be installed. Select the extensions icon and search for "C#". Click on the C# for Visual Studio Code link.
Click on the "Install" button to load the extension.
Visual Studio Code (Online) need to be reloaded. Press on the "Reload Required" button.
Select the "DEBUG AND RUN" green play icon.
The application will build and run. Click on the "Remote Explorer" icon.
Click on the "Forward port..." link.
Click on the "localhost:5000" plug link.
Congratulations! Orchard Core is now running in Visual Studio Online. How cool is that?
With just using a web browser and a GitHub repository we can edit, build, run, anddebug an Orchard Core Web Application.
